Aber Stoat Books is a romance-first bookstore that heavily embraces speculative fiction. We focus on young adult and adult romance, fantasy, thriller, science fiction, horror, and occult titles, alongside a curated collection of graphic novels and a bargain section with something for all ages.
Since launching as an online bookshop in 2024, our entire journey has been powered by this community. Every special order and purchase over the last two years has moved us closer to our dream of a physical storefront. While changes in the local commercial landscape mean we’ve been pushed out of our original target in Carlsbad Village, our commitment to this city hasn't wavered. We are thrilled to share that we are officially opening our long-awaited local store in a brand-new area off Palomar Airport Road, with the exact location to be announced very soon!
Our focus remains on building vibrant community programming, investing in bookseller education, and fostering direct connections with authors and industry professionals. We also feature a dedicated indie publishing house and actively welcome submissions from local writers.

Mandy Parrey wears many indie hats: bookseller, publisher, and the writer behind the names ML Florez and Rivkah Plume. As the founder of Aber Stoat Books and Aber Stoat Publishing LLC, she focuses on connecting readers with unique titles in the fantasy, romance, thriller, and occult genres. Between publishing local writers, curating the bookshop’s collection, sourcing special editions and signed copies, and hosting the Olde Carlsbad Silent Book Club, she is reading and reviewing as many upcoming books as she physically can!
